FAQs

  • how does acupuncture work ?

needles stimulate muscles, connective tissue, nerves and trigger the release of various hormones, neuro-modulators and neuro-chemicals. acupuncture promotes blood flow, increases circulation, reduces inflammation, aids in tissue repair and helps to regulate the nervous system.

ultimately the needles enact change in the body and restores the body to ability to return to a state of homeostasis.

  • does acupuncture hurt ?

acupuncture needles are roughly as thin as a strand of hair, you may feel a prick when the needle is initially inserted. once inserted you may feel a dull ache, heaviness, movement, muscle twitch, warmth, tingling, flossing or spreading sensations. needles should feel tolerable, allowing the body to relax. if anything is painful or too uncomfortable let me know and i will adjust or remove the needle.

bruising at insertion side, minor bleeding, light headedness, dizziness

wear loose fitting clothing and make sure you have eaten within the past 1-3 hours, when you are hungry is there is a higher likelihood of dizziness or fainting after treatment.

  • what can expect after my acupuncture session ?

everyone reacts differently. post treatment you may feel more tired or more energized, i recommend keeping your day chill and avoiding intense exercise, so that your body can continue to acclimate to the changes initiated in treatment.

  • how soon can i expect results ?

results vary, consistency of treatment provides more lasting results, each session builds on the last. depending on your condition and goals, i recommend weekly or biweekly sessions for the first month to acclimate your body to treatment. for acute conditions it takes 1-2 sessions to see results and for more chronic conditions it may take 1-4 sessions to start seeing results.
